Developed and taught by science-of-learning expert Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath, The Learning Blueprint is a practical (and fun) metacognition course designed to help students take agency over their own thinking, learning, and self-management practices.

Hi there. My name is Jared Cooney Horvath. I work with teachers, students and educators to help them achieve better outcomes by bridging the gap between the lab (theory) and the classroom (practice).

Recently my team and I developed The Learning Blueprint, a practical metacognition course designed specifically for high-school students.

Research has consistently shown that student awareness of the learning process is dreadfully low. Even at top schools, many students view learning as a ‘black-box’ process -- leaving them with little-or-no plan for managing their own academic performance.

The Learning Blueprint cracks open this black-box, and equips students with a proven cognitive framework upon which they can build a personalized approach to growth and self-development.

During this program, students are exposed to deep learning practices, the mechanics of memory, the patterns of attention, the imperative of errors and mistakes, powerful study and classroom-success strategies, and much more.

By teaching students the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ that underpin learning -- and by helping them take ownership of the process -- The Learning Blueprint is a uniquely powerful tool for deepening student engagement and supporting academic success.

If you'd like to know more about the course and/or get registered, please continue scrolling down this page. And, of course, if you have any questions or comments, please reach out and let us know.

Regards/Jared Cooney Horvath

“The illiterate of the future will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and re-learn.” | Alvin Toffler, American Writer, Businessman and Educator

If you’re reading this, you likely already understand why teaching students how to learn is so important … so we’ll skip the standard spiel and get right to the important question: what makes this course different?

Well, there are three things:

#1 | While most students are exposed to the idea that embracing a learning-and-growth mindset is important, few are ever taught WHY it’s important (let alone HOW they can take steps to practically apply this idea).

And, unfortunately, without a compelling why, simply sharing this idea with students is mostly useless. It’s like planting a potent seed without giving it adequate water and sunlight.

So, with The Learning Blueprint, we address the WHY up front by taking students on an illuminating tour of the brain, and helping them understand what learning actually means on a literal level.

During this process, students are forced to confront many common myths and misunderstandings about learning that may be stifling their potential.

But more importantly, they discover WHY learning is such a vital skill, and WHY (despite what they may currently believe) they are in control the process.

Then -- only after we’ve established the necessary belief and buy-in -- do we tackle the HOW of learning.

During the second part of the program, students are exposed to deep learning practices, the mechanics of memory, the imperative of errors and mistakes, powerful study and classroom-success tactics, proven self-management strategies, and much more.

By teaching students the WHY and HOW of learning -- and by helping them take ownership of the process -- The Learning Blueprint is a uniquely powerful tool for deepening student engagement and supporting academic success.

#2 | Let’s face it: most courses about learning are BORING.

In fact, the word ‘metacognition’ itself was invented to induce involuntary feelings of lethargy and indifference (okay, maybe we made that up).

Fortunately, The Learning Blueprint was designed to be engaging and interactive (read: it is not a sleep-inducing series of dry, one-way lectures).

When it comes to teaching, Dr. Horvath adheres to a basic maxim: if he cannot get his students to experience a concept, then he does not yet truly understand the concept himself.

Accordingly, this program leverages a complement of effective learning devices to help students truly experience the subject matter -- including interactive instruction, hands-on exercises, engaging stories, reflection questions, guided reviews, active recall exercises, and much more.

The Learning Blueprint is divided into a series of bite-sized sessions (~25-35 minutes each) that make the course easy to digest and highly conducive to deep, long-term learning.

#3 | The ideas and concepts we explore in The Learning Blueprint are not theory … they are fundamental learning principles supported by a wealth of brain and behavioral research.

In this instance, when we say ‘research’, we don’t mean a single obscure study from 1947 conducted with rats in the Siberian wilderness. We mean well-characterized, well-replicated research spanning decades of scientific toil.

Accordingly, we can assert with full-confidence that this program WILL deliver results to any student who is willing to go through the material and do the work.

Moreover, we don't expect anyone to blindly take our word for anything we claim ...

Anyone who wishes to probe deeper into any of the topics we discuss, or review the research that supports any of the claims we make, can contact our staff at LME Global for assistance.
